Now you can import your own video into Vine. And, quite frankly, it’s about time this change happened.

Not only that, but you can also edit the video, including duplication and audio editing. Even better, you can use the slow-mo feature from the iPhone 5S. As part of the debut of their new features, Vine is asking people to upload their oldest videos to share.

Being able to import your own (new or old) videos into Vine is a good move for the company. Many users were frustrated that the videos could only be created in-app. The inability to upload meant some users skipped sharing on Vine altogether, instead going with Instagram.

In the blog post announcing the new features, Vine says:

“Vine unlocks a new camera that gives you the freedom to create a Vine in any way you want. The new camera offers powerful ways to edit your videos as well as the ability to import existing videos on your phone and turn them into Vines. Simply put, this release gives you total creative freedom –– and it’s all within the app.

In addition to your phone’s front- and rear-facing cameras, you now have another source for your Vines: you can import existing videos from your phone. From the capture screen, you’ll see a new option in the bottom left corner that lets you import a video. You can select one video or mix together several — and yes, slow-motion videos are supported.”

Again, it’s about time.
