Facebook Video Ads Are Imminent

Video ads are coming to Facebook. We all knew it was going to happen eventually, and Facebook’s purchase of LiveRail last week pretty much confirms it’ll be happening soon.

Of course, no one is surprised. Online video advertising is expected to be the next big thing in coming years. LiveRail, which helps companies put more relevant ads on their sites, will make Facebook more appealing to advertisers.

Though the official terms of the deal have not been made public, Facebook reportedly paid $400 to $500 million for LiveRail.

Mobile advertising has grown exponentially over the last several years, reportedly growing 93% in the last year alone. It’s estimated that the U.S. will spend an estimated $6 billion on mobile advertising in 2014. The significant potential for revenue is what makes companies like LiveRail so appealing.

If Facebook can better target ads to its users, the more ads it can sell. The social media giant has made a huge push over the last year to improve its mobile experience, and include ads on its app and mobile site. This has been done, in large part because more and more users are accessing content on their mobile devices. This means, in order to get ads where users will see them, going mobile was necessary.

Whether or not users will like having video ads play within their news feeds remains to be seen.
