Facebook has been really busy this week! First they added a new page, FB Newswire. Then they bought the activity-tracking app Moves.

First, FB Newswire. The new page features posts from verified stories across Facebook. The stories are “hand-selected and journalist-verified” according to Facebook’s director or news and global media partnerships. FB Newswire comes as part of a partnership with Storyful, a global news agency that aggregates stories shared on social media sites.

FB Newswire will feature stories from entertainment, tech, politics, and sports. According to Facebook, “It’s going to be journalists every step of the way deciding what is of value, what should we verify, and going off and starting what is a very rigorous process.”

Now for Moves. Moves is an iPhone app that “automatically records any walking, cycling, and running you do.” The app tracks things like distance, time, and calories. One of the benefits to using Moves, over something like Fitbit, is that you don’t have to turn the application on and off. It stays active constantly to continuously keep track of your activities.

From the announcement posted on Moves’ website:

“We’re joining Facebook’s talented team to work on building and improving their products and services with a shared mission of supporting simple, efficient tools for more than a billion people.”

This announcement comes just over a month after Facebook bought Oculus VR.
