Vine's New Private Messaging

The social video sharing site Vine released its private messaging feature last week. Now, you can send text messages along with the videos you upload.

The feature works similarly to how video posts currently work, but with private messages you are now able to upload, add texts, and then send the message to other users within your Vine network. You will also be able to send private messages to contacts within your address book.

Unfortunately the messages only work as single conversations, not as a group messaging feature. Therefore, if you send a message to several people within your Vine network, you will get multiple messages back. Currently, messages are allowed by anyone, but you can change the settings to keep messages from people you don’t know from coming to you.

Vine’s private messaging follows suit with messaging features offered on other social media sites, including Twitter’s added ability to include pictures in their messages. Twitter is Vine’s parent company. Last fall, Instagram debuted its private messaging feature for its users. Instagram, of course, is owned by Facebook.

The private messaging feature in Vine was part of a larger release, which also includes new changes to the profile colors and the ability for users to choose their own.
