Facebook's Privacy Dinosaur is Cute and Helpful

If you haven’t updated your Facebook privacy settings in a while (or ever) you may have gotten a visit from the Facebook privacy dinosaur. The hilarious — yet random — extinct visitor started popping up for Facebook users within the last week of so.

The privacy dinosaur’s message is for you to get with it. As in — make sure that you are aware of the social media site’s privacy features, and are taking full advantage of them.

But why a dinosaur? That perhaps is a mystery as great as what happened to the dinosaurs. Facebook has been mum on why the little blue dino was chosen to mascot their privacy awareness campaign. It is a cute little guy, so no one seems to be too outraged, which is probably a refreshing change from the typical user backlash that accompanies most changes Facebook makes.

Even if you haven’t been lucky enough to have been paid a visit by the Facebook privacy dinosaur, you should still probably go check out your privacy settings. While there haven’t been any major changes to Facebook’s privacy features recently, it’s always good to check back in with yours.

After all, the permissions are a cumbersome labyrinth to navigate (even with a prehistoric buddy), and you may find something you missed or need to update.
