The Revolution Will Be Televised: Revolt TV

The shiny suit man is back at it again as he graces the world with another wonder of music joy…Revolt TV. We thought we loved Puffy for “Making The Band,” “Sean John,” and of course “Bad Boy,” but now he is trying to up his fan loyalty by creating a television network that is dedicated to music news and promoting independent artists; a far cry from traditional media platforms as it relates to how most artists are signed to major deals before they get air time unless they’re on a reality TV show. Revolt TV is on its way to giving music artists a new way to revolt against the old music business model.

Revolt TV’s vision is to become the ESPN of music. Music highlights, breaking news, interviews, and artists will be featured from all genres and from all around the world. They will host live concerts and do all types of awesome branding that will take it to the next level. Yet the most important thing that Puff said in his interview with Bloomberg West was that he “wanted to give control to the fans. [He] wanted to give independent artists a stage on which they can share their music with the world. People to have a say in what’s happening on Revolt TV.” Sounds like a plan for success. Social media will play a big part in the development of this network as Revolt TV looks for ways to engage fans online, because other music networks like MTV and BET have almost abandoned playing videos altogether due to their lackluster appeal to advertisers. 
Revolt TV's strategy is to meet the fans where they are with engaging content at all times. From their smartphones to their couches, Revolt TV wants to be there, filling music buffs in on what’s hot and what’s not. Plus, if you're an independent artist who gets noticed by this networks’ execs, you will definitely reap the benefits of partnering with such a brand. I guess now the girlfriends of music enthusiasts will now be like the sports fans in those commercials who are hiding their phones under the dinner table just to get the sports news.

Revolt TV launched last Monday and is only available on Time Warner and some Comcast stations; however, they are aggressively campaigning to have music aficionados call into their content providers and ask that Revolt TV be added for their viewing pleasure. As a brand, I think Revolt TV is going to add some much-needed real-world music business coverage to the scene. Plus, it’ll give MTV and BET some initiative to stop slacking and give us music fans some real content. Reality TV shows, reruns, and sitcoms are cool, but I’m down for a revolution. Revolt TV!
