Twitter's New Log-In Verification

You no longer need half a dozen phone numbers to verify multiple Twitter accounts. Twitter updated its iOS and Android apps last week with better login verifications.

Previously, Twitter users who had more than one Twitter account needed to have individual phone numbers for each account. That is obviously somewhat complicated since most people have one, maybe two, phone numbers, but could have several Twitter accounts.

The phone number requirement was part of a two-factor authentication introduced by Twitter back in May of this year after a string of high-profile account hackings. Twitter would send an SMS to anyone who found themselves locked out of their account.

While many appreciated the attempt at added security, the requirement became troublesome for those without enough phone numbers with which to verify multiple accounts. Even if you had enough numbers to match up with accounts, the chances that you may not be able to access the phone in order to receive said precious SMS message also presented a problem.

The update to the Twitter app now allows the app to be the backup verification to regain access to your account. There have been some comments about the verification not working correctly, but Twitter hopes to have that sorted out soon.
