Twitter-Themed Vacation, Anyone?

Most people go on vacation to get away from social media, but apparently there are some who love social media enough to immerse themselves completely in a Twitter-themed hotel.

#forreal?

Yes, it’s for real. The Sol Wave House in Majorca, Spain uses hashtags for just about everything. Touted as the “first Twitter experience hotel,” the Sol Wave House encourages guest interaction via an exclusive app available only through the hotel’s WiFi. Guests can share pictures, message each other, etc. with specially dedicated hotel hashtags.

Sol Wave House is the first hotel of its kind, but the use of hashtags in the hospitality industry isn’t new. Many hotels — in particular, their concierge services — have been testing out how social media can help them better connect with guests and answer questions. While you aren’t yet able to get #roomservice, you can find some pretty quality customer service going on.

But will the total Twitter experience of Sol Wave House catch on? It’s too soon to tell, though it doesn’t seem very likely. People who are completely obsessed with Twitter aren’t usually the types to get out and about. Still, if using hashtags will get you better customer service and exceptional concierge care, then perhaps it will.
