You used social media all throughout your youth. You made drunken duckfaces in college. You’ve been tagged in questionable pictures. You tweeted things you thought better of later. No big deal, right?

That was then, and this is — now. Now you know you may have played a little too fast and loose with your digital persona. Unfortunately, the damage is done, and that reckless social media image you have may end up costing you big time.

It’s not just those running for political office who may need help with their online image. Online reputation management is a growing business; one needed by people from all walks of life. Whether it’s embarrassing photos, crass tweets, a DUI, or something a lot worse, more and more people find themselves turning to companies who can help clean up your digital image.

Reputation management isn’t cheap, though. Depending on what you’re trying to clean up, it may be more cost effective to try and do it yourself. Still, reputation management companies have far more resources and tricks than your DIY, and can return results a lot quicker than most of us can do on our own.

If you’re interested in taking some extra care of your online reputation, but maybe aren’t at the point of hiring the professionals, this article from Forbes gives some excellent tips.
