On Monday, Pinterest introduced “More Useful Pins” via their blog. The Pinterest team has expanded the types of Pins to include Product pins, Recipe pins, and Movie pins, which all feature specialized augmented content that provide the information needed for the user to enjoy the featured image.

Product Pins encompass items like clothes and furniture and feature key consumer information like pricing, availability, and locations on where to buy. Information is updated every day!

Recipe pins showcase content from the bloggers and websites you like best and provide information like cook time, ingredients, and servings.

Movie pins house content ratings, cast members, and more.

Not only is this excess information great for the consumer experience on Pinterest but also it will surely optimize the Google Search rankings and evolve Pins' index ranking across the Internet, making Pinterest even more attractive for brands to invest in joining.

Pins of this variety can be distinguished from the Pinterest feed via an icon that is located at the bottom of the image. Pins created prior to this feature launch will have the feature grandfathered in to create consistency across the user experience.

In other exciting news, Pinterest has released a mobile Pin It button taking Pinning to the next level. Bringing the Pin It button into the mobile app realm will undoubtedly increase the mobile audience of the Pinterest community and augment their recently released analytics dashboard and their potential targeting capabilities (if they ever introduce a paid media service suite), which would be a surefire way to increase revenue.
