With Mother’s Day just a few days away, some of us find ourselves scrambling to come up with inventive ways to show appreciation to all the matriarchal figures in our lives. Though we may be unprepared, many companies have been anticipating this moment for quite some time. During the Olympics last year, Proctor & Gamble ran an award-winning commercial campaign entitled “Thank You Mom." Other companies have taken note and are hoping to capture similar success this year by introducing their own campaigns while still remaining true to the same heartfelt message.

AT&T has been riding the wave of a successful campaign featuring schoolchildren in their adaptation of “Kids Say the Darndest Things." Plus, if you have a good thing, why change it? Their Mother’s Day commercial stays true to their platform, but implements a new message for mothers everywhere. In the commercial, there is no discussion of AT&T’s products and services, just children relaying their genuine appreciation for their mothers. Additionally, AT&T is offering consumers (regardless of subscription) the opportunity to create their own personalized video greeting card to send for the holiday.

Google, which usually celebrates holidays and historical events with a creative Google Doodle, has also jumped aboard the video campaign ship. They have created a commercial celebrating mothers while showing off the company’s many useful online tools. Their commercial incorporates web chat, video messaging, and an array of pictures and viral video clips that tug at our heartstrings.

With the influx of creative commercials, the days leading up to Mother’s Day are bound to be memorable. Though every company is trying to find a creative edge, the underlying theme found in all is the same: appreciation. I would be remiss if I, too, didn’t join in by showing deep appreciation and celebrating mothers everywhere. To all mothers, and especially to my own, Happy Mother’s Day!
