We’ve all hit the wall of boredom when it comes to being a creative. I call it an “ad overdose” as an advertiser and I’m sure that every creative on this planet from car engineers to interior designers has a name for their creative boredom. Yet there’s an organization for us marketing folks to share our skills with the world in order to help people who are working on the grassroots side of community empowerment. This organization is called Taproot.

I’ve been a Taproot volunteer for several months and I love it. There are lots of cool people you can network with that share many of your views in regards to helping others. It’s like aromatherapy for marketing people; simple, sweet, and easily executed projects that can make a big difference in the lives of many people in your community. The projects range from strategy development to branding to brochures to annual reports. The organization that I’m currently working with is named “Faith In Place” and they are doing an outstanding job helping religious organizations “Go Green” to save money on the heating and cooling systems within their organizations. Currently, my team and I are creating a brochure for them to help spread the word about what they’re doing to assist them with bringing more faith-based organizations into the “Green Revolution” and as we all know very well, non-for-profits benefit greatly  when they can cut costs and reallocate those funds to focus more on outreach. Taproot projects are truly an instant win-win-win for everyone.

Furthermore, it’s a great place to be totally free creatively. You can bring your ideas to the table and watch them give life to more than just a sales projection. You truly see the impact that you are having on your clients’ hearts and not just their bottom lines. Plus you have a five-month window to complete the project, so it gives you plenty of time to make giving back a real part of your schedule; Taproot and the organizations that they serve understand that you have professional obligations that may cause you to readjust your schedule at times. They also give you a really cool tie after your first orientation! So if you’re looking for a cool way to give back, I would say tap into Taproot and you can definitely find a way to share your creativity in an entirely new light.
