My toddler absolutely loves Humpty Dumpty. He often asks to watch animations of the classic nursery rhyme on TV, or on my phone. Issues abound with both options: If he watches on my phone, I'm sans phone, and I have to hover to ensure he doesn't stumble across anything R-rated. If he watches via YouTube on our TV, I can't step away even for a minute, again, for fear he'll come across someone's recording of their Call of Duty journey (yeah, that happened).
But for two weeks now, YouTube has solved my problem! Its app has released an update
that makes it possible for you to pair devices over the same WiFi, meaning I can use my iPhone as a remote control of sorts as my toddler feeds his Humpty Dumpy obsession.
So after I pair my device, for the subsequent half hour, I can choose the videos my toddler watches, load up a queue, and skip through videos he doesn't want to watch — all from my phone, no matter where I am in the house.
Do you realize what this means? I can take an extra minute in the bathroom! I can prepare a home-cooked meal! I can even cue up a recipe on my phone while I prep!
OK, I'm being a little silly here, but seriously — props to YouTube for a very convenient update. What do you think of this feature?
