I admit, whenever I blog about Facebook I'm usually complaining. This will not be one of those posts. Inspired by the bipartisan spirit of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, I'm going to put my usual views aside to recognize some truly commendable work.
Facebook has partnered with 11 nonprofit organizations to launch a new test feature on Facebook Gifts: You can now make a charitable contribution in celebration of a friend or family member.
The test couldn't come at a better time, as many people are looking for ways to donate to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. One of the partnering nonprofits is indeed the American Red Cross, which is now accepting donations to help with Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.
Well done, Facebook. Well done.
I'd really like to try out this feature, but it's apparently not available to me yet. I can only conclude this means that Facebook Gifts is being rolled out to users much in the same way Timeline was: gradually.
