On this Thanksgiving eve, remember that gratitude can swell beyond the confines of one holiday. And if you ever forget, allow the social media project Epic Thanks to remind you.
Epic Thanks is, of all things, a Tumblr blog — its latest incarnation since starting out as Tweetsgiving in 2008. It contains submitted pictures of people (and pets) for whom others are thankful. Further, it invites readers to donate to a cause in the spirit of gratefulness. This year, the cause is building Mama Lucy's secondary school in Tanzania.
It is a project that aims to change the world by celebrating small tokens of gratitude.
In addition to the touching photos, one of the more inspiring components of this campaign is the #epicthanks hashtag on Twitter. Many people continue to tweet inspiring messages of thanks that will surely get you into the holiday spirit.
This time of year, many websites and blogs spotlight social media projects that aim to improve the greater good. Technically, #EpicThanks officlally runs until Nov. 25. But the act of showing gratitude — via social media, in person, in a Hallmark card, or whatever method you prefer — can and should stretch beyond the holidays.
What other causes do you think deserve a social media spotlight beyond the Thanksgiving holiday?
