Travel agents (now they're "travel advisors) want to get more into the travel picture again, now that consumers are discovering the complexities of using websites for planning trips and booking fares. An airline like American wants to do its own booking and that's causing complications on sites like Expedia, say. So there's a role for travel agents after all, but how to make up for possibly neglected public relations to get that across?

Travel Age West has a virtual short course in PR for travel agents, "Public Relations Basics for Travel Agents", on its website. It's a great recap of things like relating to the media and writing press releases. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of someone, like a distraught travel agent, who needs to brush up on effective PR, it's a good place to visit.
