Heidi Cohen provides a post containing 31 definitions of public relations. Why? Because, Heidi says, people "are liable to have vastly different perspectives on the topic." But PR's role has evolved "and become more integrated into an organization's overall marketing and communications." So it's good to have a clear idea of what it's about.

From our scanning of the list, Heidi's 31 varieties of PR come down to being effectively relational to whatever publics you're trying to relate to. "Effectively relational," though, can cover a lot of factors. Effective in what time frame? How effective? To what ends? 

No quibbles, though. Heidi pretty clearly spent a lot of time collecting these definitions and attributing them to their PR practitioner sources. This is one of those posts you bookmark for the ages.
