Usually a few commercials stand out from the Super Bowl plethora of advertisers. We love athletics and amazing feats and Grey New York, the agency chosen by Advil to create their 30-second spot, called “Distant Memory,” about people who can do amazing things. The message of the commercial was to make pain a thing of the past.

It is good to lead with your strength. Let’s explain for those who don’t do yoga that the pose the senior woman is doing in the opening of the commercial is phenomenally difficult. It probably takes more strength than most of the other stunts, and did you notice her age? Well, the commercial follows that up with wow moment after wow moment of pure physical finesse.

People who push their bodies tend to get sore or experience pain. But Advil eliminates that pain and allows them to do whatever they want to do. It’s a great example of people being active, having fun, and living life. It probably made some couch potatoes get up and start moving. Hopefully they followed that up with some Advil for the post pain!

The Super Bowl is a showcase of our finest athletes in a very physical game. Chances are good that the players on the field will be experiencing pain following the game. Everyday athletes experience pain, too. Advil has not done a Super Bowl ad in a long time. They scored a touchdown when they came in with this message.
