Twitter Pop-up Showcases Long Conversations

In an effort to make Twitter easier, Twitter managed to make itself more cumbersome. This week, the social media–sharing site unveiled its new pop-up feature, aimed at making long tweet conversations easier to read.

Before, when users clicked on tweets with many replies, the conversation expanded within the feed. Users would have to click to show the oldest responses in particularly lengthy conversations. Now, longer posts open a pop-up on top of the Twitter feed. Twitter claims the pop-up makes the replies easier to read since they all open at once and users won’t lose their place in the feed. The change is in response to continuing complaints that Twitter’s feed can be cumbersome to sift through, with newer users especially facing difficulties.

Users, however, have a different opinion of the feature. Many have complained that the pop-up is confusing and difficult to navigate.

Twitter has been facing increasing pressure to keep up with social media counterparts, like Facebook and Instagram, but has been lagging behind. The company has been changing senior management and promising to take risks in order to overcome its slowed growth.

The newest users, who haven’t had any experience with the previous feed’s layout, may have an easier time navigating. Sadly, there are fewer new users on Twitter.
