|UK Tinder is After Organs
By: Jessica Cherok
Tinder in the United Kingdom has partnered with Britain’s National Health Service to encourage users to support organ donation.
Tinder users can swipe right on profiles for NHS that will take them to sign up as an organ donor. According to Tinder’s European office, the campaign is designed to raise awareness of just how many people are awaiting organ transplants in the UK. and potentially save lives.
The campaign is an active step by Tinder to assist in organ donor matches, and perhaps repair its image after recent allegations that dating apps were increasing the number of sexually transmitted diseases among young people. Dating apps have been blamed for increasing promiscuity in the 18–35 age group.
It’s not all one night stands and STDs, though. In November, a woman who met her partner on Tinder announced that she was going to donate her kidney to her girlfriend. The app has since seized upon its broad reach with young adults to promote a good cause, at least in the UK.
UK Tinder users will come across the profiles of some British celebrities that will automatically match with them if they swipe right. They will then be redirected to the National Health Services’s Organ Donor Register.
