|Does Clinton’s College Affordability Plan Have a Chance?
By: Cindy Wendland
Sad for some and thrilling for others, it is time to send our young adults back to college or there for the first time. Hillary Clinton is introducing a college affordability plan as part of her campaign platform. Does it even have a chance?
It is true that college is expensive and that students have a lot of debt. President Obama had an initiative for free community college, but it is not getting much attention. On the campaign trail, families are expressing the worry about paying for college and getting their kids educated. This message about a college affordability plan touches people in an emotionally financial place.
Remember that President Obama ran on his health care plan. He did get it through, and it is a reality now. Will Clinton make this college affordability plan a hallmark of her campaign? Will it become part of her brand? If she can clearly outline a plan that people believe will have a chance of getting implemented and making a difference in the financial future, she may be able to attract voter turnout.
At this point, Clinton has attention for her college affordability plan. Now she will need continued marketing to keep attention and further clarify her position. Her team does a great job building her brand. It will be interesting to see how this plan plays out and impacts college in the future.
