Avalanche Energy created the SunTracer, a satellite dish that promises hours of hot water rather than entertainment. The SunTracer has a feature that uses GPS to track the sun during the day, targeting its mirrors to capture the most energy. Rather than solar cells, it uses two heavily polished mirrors to collect energy and concentrate it into one energy beam.

People who like solar will like several features of the SunTracer. First of all, there are no solar cells. This product is made of stainless steel and lightweight recyclable aluminum. The cost is less than 50% of a typical solar hot water heater system. No heat exchanger is required. There is a low initial cost and a quick payback period. Cost and payback period were two drawbacks with most solar heating systems. The SunTracer has overcome those issues.

The product is unique. Avalanche Energy is able to harness the energy of the sun using different materials than others have been trying to use. Solar energy is a great way to go green and use natural resources more efficiently, but it had an issue with cost due to manufacturing processes. The SunTracer took a different approach and may be able to offer those exciting energy savings with different materials. Will this change the solar industry? 50% savings are significant. How can it not?
