30 and Over Paying More for Tinder

Some things get better with age. Tinder, however, may not be one of them. The new premium version of Tinder is out, and if you’re over 30, you’ll have to pay more.

You can now pay to use Tinder’s premium features, including the ability to go back to profiles you swiped left. But if you’re 30 and up, you’ll be paying double the rate for the premium services.

Why?

"We've priced Tinder Plus based on a combination of factors, including what we've learned through our testing, and we've found that these price points were adopted very well by certain age demographics," said a Tinder spokesperson.

According to Tinder, age-based pricing tiers are totally okay.

“During our testing we've learned, not surprisingly, that younger users are just as excited about Tinder Plus, but are more budget constrained and need a lower price to pull the trigger."

Tinder users had long pleaded for the ability to undo an accidental swipe left. However, the company’s decision to make it available only to those who pay, and then charging some users more based on age, has not gone over well.

Many people feel that Tinder’s age-based pricing is nonsense. Paul Kedrosky, a writer for the Infectious Greed blog, even went so far as to call it the move “sleazy.”

Whether this move will hurt Tinder’s overwhelming popularity remains to be seen.
