|Which State Brags the Most?
By: Jessica Cherok
Who are the most narcissistic people online? In the United States, Californians hold the less-than-dubious distinction of being the most into themselves.
In a survey by HeyLets of 2,500 social media users, people were asked about their habits on the big three: Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Turns out, people in California are most likely to take the opportunity on social media to humble brag — or even not-so-humble brag.
Posts include things like vacations or special trips, memorable events, family, friends, meeting someone noteworthy, and work-related highlights.
While California came in highest at 77%, they certainly weren’t the only braggarts on the list. Both Washington and Nevada came in at 76% and 72%, respectively. (Maybe it’s a West Coast thing?)
Which state is the most humble? That would be Utah, whose bragging only amounted to a mere 22%.
Still, research done by Harvard points out that while many people take to social media to brag, most people don’t want to hear it. People who spend the majority of their time going on about fabulous vacations, amazing jobs, and incredible love lives may find themselves unfriended or unfollowed.
So while social media is the place for sharing, perhaps it’s best to try and control your pompous excitement.
