Facebook Endorses Tor for Accessing Site

If you live in a country that blocks access to sites like Facebook, you now have a way to access the social media giant without compromising your anonymity. Facebook has enabled access via Tor for those who want to remain anonymous.

Tor is “a free software and an open network that helps you defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.” According to Tor’s website, communications are bounced around a distributed network of relays, which prevents your activities from being tracked. Because there are several locations being bounced from, the real location of the user is difficult to track.

Tor users were able to access Facebook previously, but the social media site flagged those users as hacked accounts. The new feature allows access through Tor without being seen as hacked. This new ability opens up a lot of possibilities for people in countries where Facebook has been banned, such as Iran, China, North Korea, etc.

To access Facebook through Tor, go to https://facebookcorewwi.onion/. Through Tor’s browser, all communication and activity will not be tracked.
