Color is extremely important when it comes to design and advertising. Therefore, knowing what colors work best to grab attention, evoke emotion, and influence decision-making is no laughing matter.

Shutterstock recently released its 2014 color trends report and it brings to light the searches and downloads of certain colors, in different parts of the world.

Based on its findings, greens, blues, and grays have been the most popular colors overall. Green, they suggest, due to photos relating to soccer and the World Cup. Blue has traditionally been a popular color, and its interesting to see that gray is gaining more traction.

On the flip side, beige has faced a major decline in popularity.

The winning colors are quite different across the globe. In Brazil, purple reigned supreme. In Russia and China, pink was the most seen. In Africa, orange was the most preferred.

It is cool to see that colors differ per country, though it shouldn't be too surprising. But it is nice to have data that backs it up.
