Social Media Site Caters to the Wealthy

Let’s say that you’re super rich, and that as a super rich person, you don’t feel you have a lot in common with people who aren’t in the same income bracket. Now there’s a social media site for you.

Netropolitan, a new social media site, markets itself to the one percenters. For just $9,000 a year, you can your tony friends can be free from the common riff-raff of Facebook and socialize on the “online country club for people with more money than time.”

Sound pretentious? It is.

Netropolitan’s founders insist that their site is legit, but is pretty hush-hush about who is using their site. According to them, "We simply cannot stress enough how important preserving our members' privacy is to us. Other than announcing that at our launch we already had several hundred members, we will never publicly state the exact number of members in the club. And especially, we will NEVER release or verify the identity of any of our members – ever.”

The site’s functions are exactly like Facebook, except ad free (better be for that price!), and includes unlimited cloud storage.

Those are the only differences, though. The $9k does not include any other perks, except the joy of being Internet friends with other well-off individuals. According to the founder, James Touchi-Peters, Netropolitan is “an environment where you can talk about the finer things in life without backlash.”
