Levy Out as Publicis Chief in 2016

As we observe AdLand and the movers and shakers in the industry, we try to keep tabs on the thought leaders and heads of the major holding companies in the world.

Remember that time when Omnicom and Publicis were looking to merge to create the largest holding group in the world? Well, we all found out that because of cultural differences within each holding company neither Levy or Wren could agree on who would be the top dog.

Well, it turns out that the Publicis board also had some issues. After a shuffle in management, Levy and Publicis announced that Levy will step down as its leader in 2016.

But Levy is not alone. Kevin Roberts, of Saatchi & Saatchi fame, will also step down from the Directoire, the leadership group of Publicis.

The new group — leading Publicis after the failed merger and hopefully turning around declining revenue — will be called the Directoire+.

How creative.

Roberts, though off the leadership team, will serve as the executive chairman and CEO of S&S, as well as head coach for the Publicis Groupe. Other personnel of the former Directoire will return to lead their respective branches within the holding company.

Now that Publicis is trying to shake off a failed attempt, where will it go next? Our hunch is that it will look at adding more digital agencies or programmatic structure into its framework, or look to capture more market share in places like China, Africa, and South America.

Basically, chasing after Sorrell's WPP.

But that's not a bad thing. That could be the very thing that the Directoire+ needs to rev up energy within the group and catch up on the revenue it's been losing in the UK.

These are only suggestions. Not being within the boardroom or having an insider ear within the group can put a real hindrance  on accurate predictions. But that won't stop anyone else, right?
