Father’s Day is coming up on June 15. Now is the time to consider your gift. We know that much of the Mother’s Day shopping occurred the weekend prior to Mother’s Day, when the flower section at the local grocery store went from overflowing to totally empty in the two days before. But Father’s Day shopping happens earlier, and Shutterfly is poised to capitalize on the early thoughtful shoppers.

Shutterfly is one of the online photo processing companies offering a myriad of photo products. One of their most widely known products is the photo book. Users upload photos and arrange them in a photo book that is then printed and shipped to you. At our home, it is a treasured Christmas gift to receive your photo book of all the highlights of the previous year. Shutterfly is using grocery store checkout coupons to promote creating a photo book for Father’s Day.

The grocery store coupon program has come a long way from the 10% off oil change coupons that were commonplace. Now there's 20% off a sporting goods store and sometimes $5 or $10 off your next shopping trip. The latest interesting coupon was a FREE 8x8 photo book from Shutterfly for Father’s Day. It is a $29.99 value. If you are newbie photo book creator, this is a really good deal. If you are careful to stay within the guidelines of keeping to 20 pages, you will create the book for free. If you tend to go overboard, you will have to pay for the additional pages but will receive a credit for the first 20 pages.

The marketing approach is valuable and reaches people effectively. The offer is good — if you found $30 on the ground, would you pick it up? The gift is sentimental for Dads and is different from the usual grilling gadgets, watches, shirts, and golf balls. The photo book requires time and thought and is one Dads will cherish and come back to again and again. So go grocery shopping and try to get the coupon for yourself!
