In Facebook’s quest to do literally everything, they’re now introducing an “Ask” button similar to the “Like” button, but with the intention of flirting.

Now you don’t even need to leave Facebook to score a date. Or, at least, try to score a date. The new Ask button is intended to help you determine the availability of someone who doesn’t list their relationship status on their profile.

But it’s not just as simple as clicking a button. You also have to send them a message about your inquiry. In other words, when you click Ask, you then have to explain yourself.

Umm, awkward?

It gets better. The Ask recipient can either choose to respond to you or not. They’re given a list of relationship statuses to choose from.

Not only is Facebook making a play for the rampant success of dating websites, it’s also farming juicy relationship details for marketers. The latter is how it makes most of its money, so it makes sense.

The Ask button isn’t limited to relationship details. You can ask about anything not listed on a person’s profile. Dying to know what the hometown of one of your Facebook pals? Just Ask. Then you’ll know what you can small talk about if you score that first date.
