Walmart Adds Auto Insurance to One-Stop Shopping

The nation’s largest retailer wants to grow even bigger. Walmart just announced one-stop shopping that now includes auto insurance. This comes as part of their strategy to add more services.

Walmart is an impressive operation. Consider these numbers. Every hour of every day $36M is spent at Walmart. Walmart has 2 million employees. If Walmart were a country, they would rank 27th. Walmart has 27 brands. A few of these brands are: Sam’s Choice, Great Value, Equate, Mainstays, Ol’ Roy, Dr. Thunder, and Special Kitty. Their store brands are not only profitable but are some of the best-selling private label brands on the market.

They have store brands performing well. Now they are adding services. Walmart just added a money transfer service. They also offer life insurance, tax filing, and the ability to purchase a casket online. This was surprising. (The casket images are nice, but do funeral homes allow you to bring in your own casket?) The newest service is that of auto insurance. Watch out, Geico!

In the spirit of one-stop shopping, they are fulfilling their mission. Walmart’s assortment is encompassing and surprising in what can all be found online and in-store at Walmart. What will they add next?
