|Facebook's Paper App Too Hard To Use
By: Jessica Cherok
Facebook’s Paper app has been out for a couple of weeks now, but it hasn’t been as wildly popular as the social media giant may have hoped. Could the problem be the app’s complexity?
Will Paper’s lack of intuitive design discourage users? The simple answer is yes.
Paper is certainly more attractive than Facebook’s mobile app. But what the standard mobile app lacks in aesthetics, it makes up for in intuitive navigation. There’s simply too much going on with Paper.
Clearly, Facebook knew there was a lot going on in the app, and that users would need help. There are audio and visual guides built in to help you navigate your way around. For many, this kind of detailed tutoring is a telltale sign that the app is too complex. And it’s this complexity that could be discouraging users from making the switch. Paper is more focused on photos and videos — something social media users want — but with multiple layers and confusing navigation, the app is simply hard to move through.
Facebook needs to take a serious look at how the app is designed, and scale down. Most of Paper’s reviews have been fairly positive, and the app has the potential to replace the regular Facebook app if it’s made easier to use.
