|Bring Fantasy to your Brand
By: Cindy Wendland
Nissan Rogue is lighting up TVs and billboards with its new high action commercials. Nissan hired a feature film director for the spot and prints the warning, “Fantasy. Do not attempt.” on the bottom of the screen.
Three people are carpooling to work and encounter traffic delays. The female driver decides to hit a ramp and jump the car on top of a moving commuter train. Her quick actions and the handling of the Rogue get them to work early. Looks fun. Wish it were reality and not fantasy.
In the life of a work commuter, being able to ditch the traffic and get to work on time or early is a fantasy in and of itself. Nissan gives us the screen play of our own dream. Not sure how many people think of jumping on top of a speeding train to get out of traffic, so the idea is creative, but the liberating feeling is a great attachment to the Rogue. The name itself means to act in an outrageous or abnormal manner, so the commercial is in keeping with the name. The fantasy warning undermines the fact that most of us will drive the Rogue in normal situations.
Even so, the fantasy warnings have gotten people talking. It gives rise to dreams about driving in amazing situations. It also makes one think the vehicle must handle pretty well if it can drive on top of a train, even if it can’t really do that. A little fantasy seems like a great way to get to work.
