Shark Attack Tweets |

Social media has been credited with doing a lot of things. Giving people all over the world equal voice. Helping victims of natural disasters. Unifying nations around a cause. Now it’s help save beachgoers from a shark attack.
Scientist in Australia tagged sharks with transmitters designed to send out a tweet of warning whenever the shark swims within 1 kilometer of the beach.
The account, Surf Life Saving WA, tweets out the warnings so surfers and beachgoers alike can get out of the shark’s way. The tweets contain information relative to the shark’s location, the type of shark, as well as its location. The tweets are part of a project aimed at preventing shark-related attacks and deaths in the Western Australia area.
Sharks tagged in this project are tiger, bronze whaler, and even some white sharks.
The shark tagging project is just another example of how social media is being used to keep people safe. While only a few people would carry their phones into the water, or even check them while frolicking on the beach, the tweets are helpful for lifeguard and emergency personnel who are charged with responding to shark attacks.
