|Hasbro Family Game Night is a Win-Win
By: Cindy Wendland
For many families, Wednesday night is game night. Some families designate that night to stay home and play a board game. The purpose of the night is to build and strengthen family bonds and create memories. Hasbro is encouraging this with their Hasbro Family Game Night commercials.
Hasbro makes many board games — Monopoly, Twister, Candy Land, Sorry, Battleship, Life, Jenga, Scrabble, Scattergories, Cranium, and more. Many people have grown up playing these games. In the technology/screen age, it is helpful to offer alternatives where children’s brains are used in different ways. People also get nostalgic for things from their past. These board games bring the past together with the present, reduce screen time, and create emotional bonds. These are all positive things from a parent’s view.
For Hasbro, the positive aspect is how broad of an impact they can make with Family Game Night. Hasbro can advertise single games, and they do. In addition, they can advertise game night as an event, and through Gamenight.Hasbro.com, they can advertise their entire product line through a game-night brand. Smart and efficient.
Hasbro may be helping to build sales of other game manufacturers while building a following for game night. That probably won’t hurt them. Building sales for the whole category benefits everyone.
