|Your Name No Longer Hidden From Facebook Social Graph
By: Jessica Cherok
If you're one of those who felt it necessary to keep your name hidden from Facebook profile searches, your profile privacy is changing. Facebook is no longer allowing users to keep their names out of searches within the social media site’s social graph.
This change will not come into effect until December for users who had modified the search setting. For those who had not adjusted the setting of “Who can look you up your timeline by name?” the feature has already been removed. You can expect more detailed notifications to come out from Facebook in the coming weeks.
Unfortunately, there is no other Facebook privacy setting that will allow you to keep your information out of the graph search. Facebook has been working toward item-specific privacy controls for quite a while, as exampled by the individualized audience sharing you can set with each status update, etc. If you haven’t already looked into setting up lists to group your friends, you should.
Even hiding information from your own timeline won’t prevent it from showing up — and being searchable — on Facebook. It was already impossible to keep your profile picture, cover photo, and certain pieces of news feed activity hidden. Now your name will be public as well.
