New Changes to Facebook Policies |

Last week, Facebook sent out an email about proposed updates to its Data Use Policy and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. As with most proposed changes, users are feeling somewhat uneasy.
According to the email, the changes will impact the following:
How Advertising Works on Facebook
-
What to expect when it comes to using your name, profile picture, content and personal info with ads or commercial content
-
How to control or remove apps you've used
-
What data you're sharing with mobile devices
In summary, Facebook is seeking to shore up some loose ends when it comes to your information and advertising. Facebook recently faced legal action after allowing users’ names, images, and other profile information to be included in advertisements without user consent.
Previously, users had the opportunity to vote on proposed changes; however, voting was removed due to what Facebook called “poor participation.” Now, users can comment on the proposed changes, but not formally vote against any. Facebook does state that if user comments prompt the social media site to make more changes, they will also be posted.
For more information about the proposed changes, check out the Proposed Updates to our Governing Documents blog post. The post, written by Facebook’s Chief Privacy Officer, Erin Egan, outlines the proposed changes in more detail.
