Insurance Ads: What's So Funny?

Prior to about 15 years ago, no insurance ads were funny. There was nothing funny about reminding folks insurance is a bet they can never win. So, we had the very serious “Good Hands People” and a guy with white hair in a suit. And the only other icons were a rock and an umbrella.

But thanks to AFLAC, things have really quacked up.

We had ducks and Yogi Berra.

We have had Cavemen. We have geckos.

We have Mayhem. And we have Flo.

And we laugh.

And Geico switches campaign themes and still makes us laugh. Even when it’s not Hump DAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

And we go online to get quotes, because it’s so easy.

After all, it’s about awareness and rates. And, of course, who is willing to insure us.

And we brag about how much we saved. And then we laugh even more.

And the insurance companies are happy because costs drop and applications and premiums rise.

And then the digital world provides us with expeditious claim service, which we discover because of all those funny ads.

Proving once again: advertising works!
