Photo Tagging Now in Instagram

Finally the day has come when we can tag people in our Instagram photos! And people can tag us! The circle of narcissism on Instagram is complete.

Instagram announced last week it was rolling out its new Photos of You feature — a way to tag your friends, followers or other Instagram users in your photos. No longer will we have to take a screenshot or ask our friend to forward that picture we’re in. It’s been a long time coming — after all, Facebook is (sometimes) infamous for its tagging features, and they are Instagram’s parent company.

But with any new feature comes the question of how exactly will it work, and what kind of control will you have in relation to it.

According to Instagram’s blog, the Photos of You section will be added to your Instagram profile within the next couple of weeks, if it isn’t there already. Whenever you’re tagged in a photo, you’ll receive a notification and the photo will appear in this you-specific section. In addition, you’ll have the ability to tag to your heart’s desire, anything and anyone on Instagram, in your own photos. You will not, however, be able to tag other people’s photos.

That’s the long-form way of saying, it works just like tagging on Facebook, except you can’t tag photos that aren’t yours. More simply said — just like tagging on Facebook, only better.

The Photos of You feature will officially debut May 16, so get in there and fiddle with it, check your settings, and tag until you drop.
