The Public Affairs Council in Washington provides context for today's relational climate via a report on Americans' views of government and business. The results aren't surprising in today's contentious climate, but business (especially small business) is apparently being held in growing esteem over the federal government. Two-thirds of Americans (67 percent) have a favorable opinion of big companies and as many as 88 percent view small businesses positively, while only 41 percent view the federal government favorably, according to a telephone poll compiled by Princeton Survey Research Associates.
The survey was conducted from June 30 through July 11 in telephone interviews with 1,750 adults. They increasingly favor business providing services, like food banks and job training, that have been government's preserve. Yet corporations have a complex standing. The respondents were turned off by executive bonuses, outsourcing of jobs and business sponsorship of political ads. And on the government side, they would turn to government for help with specific needs. The full report is available here.
