The human race has always been curious. Now, it seems the current generation is not interested in diving into the realms around us. That's why NASA had to pull bring out its secret weapon: Optimus Prime. Well, Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime, at least.
The short video, titled "We Are the Explorers," is narrated by Cullen and shows what awesome feats NASA and the smart people involved in it have accomplished. It explains that everything that they did got us here, and that "here" is just the beginning. There are no Autobots in the video, though as the crescendo comes in the music one couldn't help to hope.
Below is the video.
As a culture that constantly harps on innovation and discovery, one would think that giving NASA what it needs to thrive would be a no brainer. Yet, here it is, needing to bring in Optimus Prime to explain why it is still relevant. As explorers, humans need the foundation of sound science, proven methods, and a willingness to dare. Why is our society so willing to throw NASA behind the curtains? A private enterprise may take quite a while to get to where NASA is now, though a few enterprising billionaires are moving along.
We like how NASA is positioning itself. It's needed, too. When NASA was an active household name, it was during a time when Americans were dreaming of expanding their reach to places unknown. They were prosperous, enterprising, happy, and excitedly curious at all the new things coming their way.
How did we lose that curiosity? Why are we no longer excited to explore? NASA hopes to change that. With that lofty goal, it may need the help of Optimus Prime.
P.S. On the YouTube page, one of the comments said, "when prime tells you to go to space...U GO TO SPACE." Love it.
