Lewis Loses It Over an E-book

Yes, PR is becoming increasingly digitally focused. But words are still words, with explicit meaning. Don't ever mistake that. We're afraid the folks at Lewis PR aren't clear enough about the meaning of "simply" in promoting an e-book of theirs, which just caused us real (digital) annoyance.

Lewis has prepared an e-book of 12 articles on "The Changing Face of Communications." Great! "To receive the ebook as a downloadable PDF," they invited us, "simply fill in the form on this page." So we did, with not-so-great results. When the email from Lewis arrived from London, it thanked us for our interest in them and added, "Your request has been passed to one of the team, who will contact you shortly." And no PDF.

That wasn't the deal. We were to get a copy of the e-book, plain and simple, not provide Lewis with a contact to call and annoy. We've gotten other e-books the straight-out way, and appreciate them. In Lewis' case, we sent a return email asking them NOT to contact us. The last we heard, that puzzled them. It shouldn't have.

Digital PR needs to be as respectful and straightforward as any other form of the craft.
