|Now It's 'Occupy Healthcare' Too
By: Doug Bedell
A guy named Nate Osit, "your average friendly Health IT geek," is helping to launch "Occupy Healthcare," a medical counterpart of "Occupy Wall Street." And for good reason. Health care costs, the product of an insular, professionally-dominated health care system, have been going through the roof — everyone's roofs.
The point is, though, that because the health care situation represents a failure in public policy, it's now bidding to become a public relations crisis. Which is what can happen when we let interests that affect all of us go awry — that is, become captives of the professionals involved. The U.S. as a national system responsible to "the people" is being sorely tested these days, because a lot of suit-wearing folks haven't been taking the Constitution's relational tenets seriously enough.
We hate to be reporting such PR "opportunities" as these, but here they are. As Nate Osit puts it, "Please don’t just Occupy Healthcare because it’s the latest buzz word. Get involved in your local occupation, and if there is none, start one! Healthcare is one of many issues facing our society, but it's a big one."
