PR practitioners need to be familiar with how new customer service/social media technologies fit into given settings, like  banking. Here's a briefing from financial services pros at Ernst & Young on that very topic.

Banks have a lot facing them in terms, not only of new technologies, but changing regulatory conditions and other cost pressures. Still, they need to be hip with IT; customers are increasingly expecting that. In this context, "Ernst & Young recently completed a global survey that reinforced the importance of strategies that rebuild trust with retail clients. The 2011Global Banking Survey also highlighted the challenges and operational implications of refocusing on the consumer, especially when considered in combination with the host of regulatory changes being implemented."

There follows discussion of seven issues facing banks and, no doubt, other service providers as they seek to relate well to customers using the latest technology. Worth spending some time with.
