|Blogging Currents 'Down Under'
By: Doug Bedell
The great thing about the Web is that it brings insights from everywhere, like how PR firms in Australia are trying to corral bloggers there. Same thing's no doubt occurring in the U.S.
The word at Australia's Nuffnang Blogopolis conference was that motherhood bloggers are the fastest growing category there, with food the biggest one, just ahead of fashion. (Nuffnang is an Australian blog marketing firm.) For their part, Aussie bloggers (there are an estimated 10,000 of them) are interested in finding ways to fend off PR firms trying to place topics on behalf of clients without getting "blackbanned" (blacklisted) by them.
"The mummy blogosphere is a huge growth area," says a Nuffnang manager. "There's a huge demand from advertisers to work with mothers because they know that mothers are key decision makers in the household."
Any doubt that blogging is becoming a new PR landscape, like journalism used to be?
