|A Global Network for Food Crisis Management
By: Doug Bedell
Here's an interesting approach to crisis planning and management in the global food industry. Thirteen communications agencies "have set up the Crisis Management Network to offer support to global food and drink industry players." The at-the-ready alliance was "formerly the European Crisis Management Partnership but now includes Latin America and Australia, as well as Europe."
"Recent European food scares," notes a post on FoodNavigator.com, "include Salmonella in eggs and dioxins in animal feed, which lower consumer confidence in the food supply chain and regulatory agencies." Adverse weather challenges along with factors like labeling and other regulatory requirements are adding pressures for the multi-national management of the food crisis scene.
This is certainly a daunting challenge. But you're well along to dealing with a crisis effectively when you have preplanning in effect. The global food industry's communication supplier firms seem to recognize that.
