Because good external relations begin internally, it's helpful for PR practitioners to have familiarity with employee relations and communications in their kit bags. Clients will appreciate the added depth should employee elan become important to their market standing, as it easily can. So we refer you to a helpful primer on employee relations included in the May Inc. magazine.

Entitled "7 Ways to Improve Employee Satisfaction," the article refers readers to "Delivering Happiness," the book by Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh and The Happiness Project blog of Gretchen Rubin, as well as providing its heralded seven suggestions. They include giving employees more control over their schedules, environment and/or work habits; creating employee-driven competitions, such as sales competitions; ways to ease commuting stress; freeing up more time with techniques like shorter meetings; encouraging social connections by fostering good office communication; promoting good health; breaking up routines; and creating an atmosphere of growth. Note how these overlap with PR and markeing goals and techniques. A piece definitely worth your attention.
