|Doritos Targets Babies and Dogs
By: Cindy Wendland
Sometimes, actually oftentimes, it shocks and surprises us the comments that people make. We tend to use social media to voice thoughts that should stay inside our heads, if they materialize at all. Doritos used a contest to get ideas for their Super Bowl commercial. The baby submission that won set off a flurry of Twitter activity that got a little heavy. Let’s step back and take a look.
We missed the beginning commercials and walked into the Super Bowl when the Doritos dog commercial aired. Basically, the commercial shows dogs being shooed away from the grocery store as they try to enter. Eventually the dogs stack atop each other underneath a trench coat and make it into the store to buy Doritos. It was funny.
Our daughter told us about the Doritos baby commercial we missed. The beginning of the commercial was funny as the baby moved around trying to get the Dorito. The ending was a little off, but the commercial was humorous. Doritos used dogs and kids — two winning components in a successful commercial.
Doritos has created a following of people trying to create the best Doritos commercial. In doing so, they have strengthened their brand message that Doritos is a sought-after snack chip. We think they accomplished their goal. Perhaps people just need to lighten up.
