|Hipster Santa Adds Flair to Christmas Time
By: Justine Huffman
Christmas doesn’t need to be stylish...or does it? Cue “Hipster Santa,” Jolly Old Saint Nick’s cooler modern counterpart.
Toronto’s Yorkdale Shopping Centre has launched an ad campaign featuring a handsome fashion-forward Santa Claus who has propelled the “Hipster Santa” trend. The Yorkdale “Hipster Santa” is portrayed by model Paul Mason.
The Yorkdale promo is a refreshing twist on a beloved holiday figure, one that many of the Millennial generation can appreciate.
“Hipster Santa,” like the original Saint Nick, is of European descent and has a beard (of course), but those are the only similarities. The new Santa is slim, pensive, and not restricted to wearing red suits and buckled boots. He’s practically the anti-Santa, though he does embrace the holiday spirit, so there’s no need for Krampus to get his horns in a twist.
A man bun and black Converse sneakers were attached to a “Hipster Santa” at a mall in Portland. This Santa also came with a typewriter. Way to go, Portland, for keeping the hipster vibe real!
Other “Hipster Santas” were spotted on Instagram. Some rocked red beanies; others went for handlebar mustaches — or both. One Santa had the words "naughty" and "nice" inked on his forearms. Now that’s commitment.
