Cha-Ching Goes the Sound of Apps

We were shopping at our local mall and saw signs for the RetailMeNot app. RetailMeNot offers website coupons and promo codes to help you save money at over 50,000 stores. We downloaded it to try to save money on our back-to-school shopping. Who doesn’t like to save money? It’s a convenient way to lower your bill in store and online.

One of our favorite features of the RetailMeNot app is the sound of the alert. When there is a great sale or discount, the alert is sent with the sound of an old-fashioned cash register saying cha-ching. It is so different from any other alert sound that it grabs attention. We also might be conditioned to think the cha-ching sound is synonymous with money.

The alerts are helpful. We feel like we are in the know with secret sales and specials. That in turn makes us feel special. The app does a nice job with engagement and information. The 50% off Victoria’s Secret alert recently was helpful. Some places don’t offer sales regularly, and getting that information in a timely way is helpful in saving money.

The app offers nice levels of customization, so rather than getting alerts for stores we don’t shop, we can build our own preferred store list. This makes the alerts personal and increases the likelihood we will click for additional details. But best of all is the sound of the alerts on this app. Cha-ching!
